- Apostille (verified)1w
- Consular appointment (typical)4w

Avoid these
What do people get wrong about the Turkey Digital Nomad Visa?
- Underestimating timing by a factor of 2–3. The "60-day processing" line is real, but it's only the consulate's processing window. The door-to-door reality includes police clearance, apostille, consular appointment lead, and post-arrival registration, so most applicants land between 4 and 7 months.
- Skipping or mis-formatting the apostille. Apostille is the single most cited rejection reason. Every supporting document from your home country needs an apostille from the right authority, and they expire. Don't apostille more than 4 months before submission.
Documents
What Australian applicants typically submit
Documents needing an apostille (Australian authorities):
- Criminal record / police clearance certificate (AFP National Police Check)
Worth knowing: Australia is not among the 36 nationalities eligible for Turkey's Digital Nomad Identification Certificate, so Australians cannot use the dedicated digital-nomad route and instead apply for a standard short-term residence permit on grounds of stay. Since 17 April 2026, holders of ordinary Australian passports enter Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, so they can enter without a visa and lodge the residence permit application inside Turkey. Both points are confirmed by independent reporting and the Turkish consulate visa note. The card fee of about 810 TRY is supported, but the short-term residence permit's per-month government duty for Australian nationals could not be confirmed from an official Turkish source and should be treated as unverified.
Tax
How is Digital Nomad Visa income taxed for Australian citizens?
Turkey taxes on residency. A person who stays in Turkey for more than 183 days in a calendar year (or has a habitual abode there) becomes a Turkish tax resident and is liable to Turkish income tax on worldwide income; double-taxation treaties may apply and can override domestic residency determination. There is no special digital-nomad tax exemption attached to this route.
Money, roughly (indicative)
Regime: Foreign income (foreign account) generally untaxed, about 0% effective tax on €60k/yr.
Income earned abroad and received into a foreign account is generally not taxed in Turkey, and you owe no Turkish social contributions unless you register as a local entrepreneur (SGK is voluntary). Over 183 days can make you tax-resident. Verify with a local advisor.
